What to Expect during a Root Canal
Here's what to expect during your root canal treatment:
- Friendly examination and diagnosis with digital x-rays to see exactly what's happening inside your tooth
- Gentle local anesthesia to make sure you don't feel a thing during the procedure
- A small opening in your tooth gives us access to the problem area
- Cleaning out infected tissue using comfortable rotary technology, gently shaping and thoroughly cleaning the canals
- A special material called gutta-percha fills and seals the canals to prevent re-infection.
- A temporary filling to protect the tooth
Most of our patients are back to their normal activities the very next day! You might feel a little soreness for a day or two, but regular over-the-counter pain relievers typically take care of it.
Once everything has healed, we'll place a permanent restoration (usually a crown) to protect your tooth and complete the treatment. This final step ensures your tooth stays healthy and strong for many years to come.
